You have worked hard on your manuscript and you are ready to turn all those pages into a book. As a lover of books, I am committed to making yours the best it can be and help get it into the hands of as many people as possible. As my client you have the option of participating in every stage of your book design for a highly rewarding, creative and collaborative experience. Together we’ll transform your ideas into a professional, high-quality book you can be proud of.

I will provide a roadmap to set you up for success comprised of budgeting and production costs along with tips on how to avoid common costly mistakes. You will also be provided with a production schedule and a marketing plan.

One of my goals is to alleviate the anxiety that comes with wanting your book design to be the best it can be. You will be involved in the design process every step of the way so you won’t have to ask what happens if you don’t like your cover. You will see the evolution of your cover as it evolves and can feel safe leaving all the production and technical details to me once your book design is approved.

How does it work?

We start by communicating either via Zoom or phone. We will schedule a one hour consultation where you will tell me all about your book and I will help answer any questions you may have and see if we are a good fit for working together once your manuscript is finalized and edited. When you are ready, you may schedule that call here.

If we decide to work together I will send you a quote for your book along with an invoice for a deposit. Deposits are $250 and are refundable as long as work on your book hasn’t yet begun. Your deposit becomes non-refundable once work on your book has started.  Clients aren’t added to my production calendar until deposit is received. I book a few weeks in advance so if you are ready to get started please let me know as soon as you can so I can confirm space on my schedule to devote to your book.

Once payment or deposit is made I will send over a simple agreement that states I agree to do the work discussed, you agree to pay for the work discussed and we both agree you own the copyright to your book design.

At this time you will send me your manuscript and any original and/or licensed images, artwork, sketches, and anything else that will help with the design process. If we need to license artwork for your cover we’ll discuss available options and achieve it in the most cost-effective way possible.

The Design Process

The design process begins with your manuscript. My job is to translate your story into a visual invitation for the reader to want more. We will be working on the front cover first. Once your front cover is approved, I will then design the spine and back cover.

You will receive your first rough designs within ten days of our signed agreement via dropbox. As you go through them, we will look for the theme we want to follow and play with different images, fonts, colors, overlays, etc. Once we get excited about an idea, we will continue to follow that path.

As you continue to focus on what you like and don’t like about your cover it will eventually evolve into it’s final version. Seeing your cover come together is my favorite part of the process. At this point I will create a spine and back cover design that includes your back cover text, ISBN and barcode.

At this stage I’ll go over every element and double check that everything is ready for print. I design all covers and pages using Photoshop and InDesign and will upload all files including any digital mockups via Dropbox for your approval. Once you are satisfied with the cover, you will sign an approval checklist confirming that we are ready to go to press.

Publishing & Printing

If you are using a self-publishing platform such as Createspace, Blurb, or Ingram Spark, I will handle all the details including printed proofs, Amazon channels, global distribution, and e-book conversion. If you are using your own printer you will send me their contact info and I will take care of handling technical specifications and uploading instructions for your printer. Before books are made available to order, I will have a printed proof sent to you for final approval if applicable.

Once all files have been approved and final payment has been made, I will upload all approved files and open your sales channels.


Once your print book has gone to press, I am able to create an ebook from your InDesign files. I will be able to give you a quote once I know your final page count. Marketing is an ongoing part of the book creation process. You will have an hour marketing consultation with me as part of your package along with some marketing images for your social media and newsletter promotion. I also promote all client books regularly and maximize your metadata during the publishing process for maximum sales.
